Because I’m a huge dork, I hold official documents under a blacklight shortly after I get them to check for fluorescent indicia. (Because I’m a huger dork, I use words like “indicia.”) A state flag on a driver’s license is no great shakes, but I only know of one place that gets the colors right.

As a second-semester Hastings student, I’m taking moot court this term. Among other things, this is cool because I got my first choice of topic: LabCorp v. Metabolite, a case the Supreme Court will hear sometime this term. There’s a lot going on here; this is probably the biggest patent case in a couple of decades. The class has just started, but look for stories about the case to show up throughout the term.

This is from an Applebee’s my family went to when we were in South Dakota visiting relatives over Christmas. Apparently Applebee’s has a very lenient definition of “cocktail,” as a “Brewtus” seems to consist of nothing more than a draft beer, without so much as a garnish to distinguish it.
